What ownership structures qualify for B-BBEE points?
B-BBEE Ownership points depend on black ownership, voting rights, economic interest and net value. The right ownership structure can have a significant impact on your B-BBEE scorecard and overall level.
- 10%+ ownership: May help meet the Ownership Priority Element requirements, potentially avoiding a level discount and contributing approximately 14–16 points, depending on the applicable scorecard and structure.
- 25% + 1 share: Can secure the full 25 Ownership points, subject to meeting the applicable Codes’ requirements.
- 30%+ ownership: Can secure the full 25 Ownership points and may qualify the business as black woman-owned, provided the relevant ownership and eligibility requirements are met.

Can we improve our ownership points without selling part of the business?
Ownership points require qualifying black ownership, but this can be achieved through different structures, including direct shareholding, employee ownership schemes, trusts or broad-based ownership schemes. Will bringing in a B-BBEE partner mean losing control of my business?
Not necessarily. Control depends on how the transaction is structured, including voting rights and shareholder protections. We structure deals so they earn the points you need while protecting shareholder interests.
What is a success fee?
A success fee means you only pay if a transaction concludes. Our fee is based on the value of the final transaction, so our interests are aligned with getting a deal that works for your business.
